An 82-year-old woman died Friday morning and another driver was injured in a collision east of Galt.
The driver who was killed was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Diane George of Galt.
The crash occurred about 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Simmerhorn Road and Cherokee Lane. Geprge was driving a Ford Taurus south on Cherokee Lane and failed to stop at the stop-sign limit line at Simmerhorn Road, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The Taurus entered the intersection directly in the path of a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 32-year-old woman from Wilton. The driver of the Tahoe tried to avoid a collision, but the front end of her vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Taurus, according to the CHP.

George suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Tahoe, who was not identified, suffered what the CHP described as minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center.
The CHP said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have been factors in the collision.
