A 53-year-old man killed in a south Sacramento County crash has been identified by coroner’s deputies.
Raymond Vandenberg of Sacramento was killed Friday afternoon on Hedge Avenue, just north of Florin Road. His car was heading north on Hedge Avenue when it crossed into the path of a southbound dump truck.
The driver of the dump truck sounded his horn and applied his brakes, but the car continued toward the truck without slowing and hit the front of the truck, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
Vandenberg died at the scene, according to the CHP.

A 3-year-old boy was in a child-restraint seat in the left-rear passenger seat of the car. The CHP reported that a passerby stopped and broke the left rear window to pull the child out of the vehicle.
The boy was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with unknown injuries, the news release said. A dog also was injured in the crash and was taken by Sacramento County animal control officers.
The driver of the dump truck, a 50-year-old Sacramento man, was not injured.
