A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal assault on a woman early Thursday in Citrus Heights.
Citrus Heights officers responded about 1:43 a.m. to the 7500 block of Cook Avenue regarding a report of an assault. When they arrived, they found a woman with severe injuries. She was taken by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital, where she later was pronounced dead, according to a Police Department news release. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.
The woman’s injuries were consistent with an assault, and detectives treated the scene as a homicide investigation, police said. During the investigation, detectives identified a suspect who was known to the victim but was no longer at the scene.
About 2:56 a.m., the suspect, William Patrick Hendrickson, contacted the police dispatch center, saying he wanted to turn himself in, police said. Officers responded to Hendrickson’s location and took him into custody without incident.
