The Sacramento County coroner’s office later Sunday identified the crash victims as Bobby Potts, 41, and Cathrin Nevin, 39, both of Olivehurst.
The crash remains under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role.
According to police, preliminary information suggests that Potts was riding eastbound on State Route 244, a short road linking Interstate 80 and Auburn Boulevard, and approached the intersection at an unsafe speed. State Route 244 dead-ends into the parking lot of Heritage Oaks Hospital.
Potts attempted to stop, locking up the brakes, police said, causing the motorcycle to slide across the intersection and into a tree in the parking lot. The impact threw both riders from the motorcycle, causing fatal injuries.
Anyone with information about the accident should contact Sacramento Police Department dispatch at 916-264-5471.
