Three teens detained after armed carjacking in south Sacramento

Three juveniles used a gun to steal a car from a woman Sunday morning, then evaded police before crashing the vehicle and being taken into custody, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The carjacking occurred near Vintage Park Drive and Waterman Road at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

Police spotted the vehicle just over two hours later near Highway 99 and Grant Line Road and began pursuing it until it crashed near Elk Grove-Florin and Calvine roads, Turnbull said. The three teens fled the scene but were located and detained.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Sacramento and Elk Grove police departments.
