An 88-year-old woman died and two people were injured after two cars collided head-on Wednesday evening in Granite Bay, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The collision occurred about 5:15 p.m., when a 62-year-old Carmichael woman drove a Toyota south on Auburn Folsom Road near Shelborne Drive, according to CHP’s incident report. While navigating a right curve at about 45 mph, the Toyota crossed over the double-yellow lines dividing lanes and drove into a Lexus heading north on the same road, CHP said.

An 88-year-old woman from Newcastle in the Toyota’s passenger seat died on the scene, according to the CHP. The Toyota driver and the driver of the Lexus, a 23-year-old Roseville man, were brought to Sutter Roseville Medical Center to receive treatment for major injuries, CHP said.

The deceased woman’s name will be released by the Placer County Coroner’s Office.
