Sacramento police apprehended a suspect after a 12-minute high-speed chase from south Sacramento into Elk Grove Sunday morning.

Officers received an alert about a stolen vehicle passing through the Meadowview Road and Detroit Boulevard intersection in Meadowview a little after 9 a.m. on Sunday, said police spokesman Detective Eddie MacCaulay. A Police Observation Device, or POD, caught the license plate of the vehicle with its three cameras suspended on a power pole.

Officers found the car and tried to pull it over, MacCaulay said, but the driver drove off at “a high rate of speed.”

Twelve minutes later the car crashed in the parking lot of a shopping center at Laguna and Big Horn boulevards in Elk Grove. The adult male driver was taken to a local hospital. Elk Grove’s police department assisted when the chase entered the city, MacCaulay said.
