Friday morning robberies at a gas station and saloon in El Dorado County were carried out with an unusually conspicuous vehicle – a brightly colored van stolen earlier in the day from a Roseville sushi restaurant, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.
“It’s probably not the best vehicle to do criminal activity in,” said Dee Dee Gunther, a spokesperson for the Roseville Police Department, which is handling the search for the stolen van. “It has, like, a sushi wrap on it … It should be pretty easy to find.”
Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi bar learned that its vehicle – a white 2017 Ford van sporting a enlarged picture of sushi and the Mikuni logo – was missing when the Sheriff’s Office contacted the restaurant Friday about the robberies, Gunther said. The restaurant reported the van theft to Roseville police at 7:39 a.m.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, early in the morning on Friday, two suspects seen in a van with Mikuni’s logo broke into and stole from a Valero Gas Station on Pony Express Trail at Ridgeway Drive.
About an hour later, the suspects – still driving the Mikuni van – broke into El Dorado Saloon and Grill in El Dorado Hills to steal various items, the Sheriff’s Office said. When a saloon employee arrived and intervened, the suspects ordered the employee onto the floor, completed their theft and fled, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
