A suspected reckless driver is in jail after he fled from a California Highway Patrol officer in El Dorado County, briefly halting traffic on Highway 50.
Officer Dave Blood with the CHP’s Placerville Office was on patrol Friday morning when he received a report of a reckless driver. He located the suspect vehicle, which had been reported stolen, according to a CHP Facebook post.
The officer attempted to make an enforcement stop. The driver initially complied but then resisted the officer, leading to a physical fight between the officer and the suspect, the CHP said.
Officer Blood broadcast a call for assistance, and the suspect got back in the stolen vehicle and drove away.

The suspect then stopped the vehicle on Highway 50, east of Sly Park Road and ran off on foot.
Additional CHP units, along with a CHP helicopter, Placerville police officers and El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area to search for the suspect. Traffic on Highway 50 was temporarily stopped for public safety, the CHP reported.
The suspect was quickly located and taken into custody without further incident. He was identified as Christopher Ryan Wagner, 28, of El Dorado Hills.
After he was medically cleared, Wagner was booked into El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of felony evading, auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted theft of an on-duty police vehicle, resisting arrest, resisting a peace officer by use of violence, driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended license.
