The Davis Police Department is warning residents of a burglary trend in which suspects are knocking on doors of houses with open first-floor windows.
On Wednesday, a suspect knocked on the door of a home in the Slide Hill Park area and asked for “Jerry.” No such person lives in the home and the resident called police. Within an hour of the door knock, someone cut the window screens of two nearby houses and burglarized them, according to a Davis police Facebook post.
The post said this is the third similar incident.
“We ask that you please don’t leave your first floor or accessible windows open when you are not home,” the post said. “If someone comes to your door and asks for anyone who does not live at your residence, please gather as much information as you can on the appearance of the person and immediately call the Police Department at 530-747-5400.”
