A Sacramento man was hit when he stepped in front of a sheriff’s deputy’s SUV on a darkened Arden Arcade street early Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man, Donnell Wade, 22, suffered major injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the crash that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Monday. The CHP said Wade, wearing dark clothing in a poorly lit location, was walking in the center median of Watt Avenue north of Whitney Avenue.
A veteran Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy in a marked black and white Ford Explorer patrol vehicle, traveling northbound on Watt at the posted speed limit of 40 mph., swerved when Wade stepped into the lane of the oncoming SUV.
