A 31-year-old Sacramento man was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting early Thursday in the 5100 block of Ehrhardt Avenue.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Brandon Campbell of Sacramento.
Residents called the police about 3 a.m. to report hearing a gunshot and seeing someone lying in the street, said Officer Linda Matthew, Sacramento Police Department spokeswoman.
Officers responded and found Campbell unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Sacramento fire personnel declared him dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives are canvassing the area, looking for witnesses and surveillance footage, Matthew said.
There is no suspect description. The police are asking for anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the dispatch center at 916-264-5471, Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357 or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
