The 40-year-old former Elk Grove teacher arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old student and molesting two other teens was arraigned Monday in Sacramento Superior Court.
Monte Antonio Reed taught geography at Cosumnes Oaks High School before the allegations surfaced April 19. Reed entered the jail courtroom wearing jail-issued orange pants, shirt and slippers. Bail was set at $50,000. Reed, who was represented by attorney Adam Richards, did not enter a plea.
The court ordered Reed to have not contact with the alleged victims – three 15-year-old students. Reed is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 6 in Department 8.
Outside the courtroom, Richards huddled with Reed’s family, including his mother and brother.

“I believe in my son 100 percent,” said the woman identified by Richards as Reed’s mother. She declined to give her name. The other two declined to comment on the case.
Reed had been under investigation since April 19, when Elk Grove Unified School District officials notified law enforcement of a complaint. Reed was placed on administrative leave and the school’s parents were informed the next day, according to the district.
Between January 18 and April 19 of 2016, Reed allegedly had sex twice and twice engaged in oral copulation with a 15-year-old girl. He also is suspected of penetrating the child with a foreign object. He was charged with five felony counts for the alleged acts against the girl.
Between August 2016 and September 2016, Reed allegedly molested two other 15-year-old girls. He is facing two misdemeanor charges for those acts.
