The Rocklin Police Department is investigating an armed robbery and carjacking that took place early Saturday.
Shortly after midnight, officers responded to a robbery in a parking lot in the 5100 block of Commons Drive, just off Sierra College Boulevard, where a vehicle had been taken at gunpoint, police report in a news release.
Police provided these details:
The victim said a male approached him while he was sitting in his vehicle. The male pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his vehicle and personal property. The victim told officers that he believed the suspect had been circling the parking lot earlier in a silver Infiniti.
The male took the victim’s vehicle, and both vehicles fled the area. A short time later, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop both vehicles on Interstate 80. A short pursuit ensued into Sacramento County. The vehicles were able to get away due to excessive speeds. The victim’s vehicle was later found in a Sacramento neighborhood. Personnel from multiple agencies searched the area for the suspect, but did not find him.
The suspected carjacker is described as a Latino male, unknown age, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a half face mask, dark long-sleeve shirt and dark pants. His vehicle is described as a silver Infiniti with paper license plates.
