El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who allegedly stole two backpacks’ worth of firefighting equipment from outside a Placerville hotel.

Pictured in a white-and-red gingham shirt, vest and shaved head in security footage, the man stole two “Mystery Ranch” backpacks out of the back of a U.S. National Park Service fire truck the night of Oct. 10, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Each backpack contained radios, GPS units and personal gear the firefighters left behind while fighting the 30-acre Ice House Fire in rural El Dorado County.

The truck had been parked at the Best Western Hotel in Placerville. Anyone with information on about the theft is asked to call Detective Jesse Dacanay at 530-642-4709 and refer to case 17-9157.
