A 41-year-old Sacramento man was arrested Tuesday after fleeing, then fighting with Rancho Cordova Police Department officers.
Anthony Rushing was arrested after a violent confrontation in which he tried to remove a handgun from the holster of an officer, according to a department news release.
Police provided these details:
Officers from the Crime Suppression Unit observed Rushing “commit an infraction relating to improper use of a crosswalk.” Upon being contacted by the officers, Rushing fled through the Zinfandel light-rail station. Officers caught up with him in a nearby strip mall, where he fought with officers.

During the fight, Rushing dropped a knife he was concealing in his hand. The officers did not immediately see the knife during the fight. During the struggle, Rushing and officers fell to the ground. Rushing then attempted to remove one of the officer’s handguns. Officers used a Taser to subdue Rushing, who was taken into custody. One officer suffered a minor injury to the side of his face after being punched by Rushing.
Rushing was booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest, attempting to remove an officer’s firearm and a violation of his Post-Release Community Supervision probation status.
