A 39-year-old West Sacramento man died late Tuesday afternoon when his pickup rear-ended a big-rig on Interstate 80 in Sacramento’s Natomas area.
The collision was reported about 5:43 p.m. on eastbound I-80, west of Truxel Road. Officer Richard Quintana, California Highway Patrol spokesman, said traffic was heavy at the time and the big rig was traveling about 5 mph in the No. 3 lane, when the Silverado, traveling about 65 mph, came up behind the tractor-trailer rig. The pickup did not slow down and rear-ended the big rig, Quintana said.
The driver of the Silverado, the only person in the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Jason Stanley.
Quintana said the big-rig driver, a man from Elk Grove, was not injured.
