Placer County sheriff’s detectives arrested a man Thursday on suspicion of breaking into a Newcastle home Tuesday night and touching a woman sleeping inside.
The woman woke up when Travis L. Kevie, 36, of Newcastle touched her leg while she slept in bed. She screamed and he fled. Police pieced together his identity from her description of the suspect and the description of his bike found nearby, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevie lives near the victim’s home, according to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. He was arrested early Thursday morning and cooperated with detectives, telling them he entered the house to have sex with a woman he knows, but entered the wrong house.
He was charged with assault with intent to commit a sex crime, residential burglary with intent to commit a felony and a probation violation. His bail is set at $1.02 million.
