Coroner’s Office identifies boy, 3, who died in Placer ATV crash

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the 3-year-old boy who died Sunday in an ATV crash in Placer County as Jayden James Secrest of Citrus Heights.

The youngster and his 5-year-old friend, identified on the Coroner’s Office website as Blake Lee Cronkhite of Lincoln, drowned when the kid-sized all-terrain vehicle they were riding crashed into a pond in rural Placer County.

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol said the boys were riding a 50 cc ATV on Sunday afternoon in the driveway of a home in the 5100 block of Wise Road, part of the gated Crosswater community between Lincoln and Auburn. Blake lived at the residence with his family. The 5-year-old was driving, and the younger boy was on the back, according to the CHP.

A CHP spokesman said the boys’ fathers were working on the property and at some point lost sight of the children.

The boys were airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead Sunday evening.

The Coroner’s Office identified Blake’s parents as Brandon and Sarah Cronkhite, and Jayden’s parents as William Secrest and Nicole Valenzuela.
