Two Colusa residents died in a five-vehicle collision Saturday morning on Highway 20 on the Sutter Causeway west of Yuba City, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported about 10 a.m. after an 18-year-old Meridian man, Jacob Correia, driving a 2004 Ford Expedition was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed and struck a 2015 GMC Sierra truck from behind, the CHP said in a news release. The Expedition then swerved into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 1998 Chevy S10 truck, authorities said.
A 48-year-old Colusa man and a 58-year old Colusa woman in the Chevy truck died at the scene. Their names were not released. Correia, who drove the Expedition, was taken to Rideout Hospital with major injuries, according to the CHP.
Three other vehicles were involved in the crash but the drivers —Yuba City's Cody Arnold in the GMC Sierra, Redding's John Moell and Sutter's Travis Perse — did not suffer injuries. Drugs or alcohol were not contributing factors in the crash, the CHP said.
