The burned body found in West Sacramento on Saturday has been identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office as that of a 35-year-old woman, Tangerie Jones.

Sgt. Roger Kinney, West Sacramento police spokesman, said the department is still treating the case as a death investigation, and investigators continued to work in the field Thursday.

The Police Department released a flyer featuring a photo and description of Jones. Police say she was transient and lived at a camp near Jefferson Boulevard and Highway 50.

Her burned body was found in the 600 block of West Capitol Avenue about 5:17 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a vacant lot. After extinguishing the fire, they found Jones’ body within a roofless concrete enclosure, according to police. The body was so badly burned that investigators initially were unable to determine whether it was a male or female.

The flyer describes Jones as black, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
