Has man accused of murdering 84-year-old Stockton woman gone to trial?

Q: What is the status of the Alvin Larry Davis trial for the Hazel Dingman murder?

Nowucy, Sacramento

A: Alvin Larry Davis, 78, remains in San Joaquin County Jail awaiting trial for the July 2012 murder and sexual assault of 84-year-old Hazel Dingman in Stockton.

The next court date in the case is March 5 for a hearing on motions for discovery and to exclude certain testimony, according to San Joaquin County Superior Court records available online.

Police received a call shortly after 4 p.m. July 5, 2012, from Dingman’s daughter, who reported she had found her mother’s body in her home at 572 Downing Street. Dingman had been brutally beaten and raped. Forensic evidence linked Davis to the case, according to a Stockton Police Department news release issued at the time of his arrest in Las Vegas in 2016.

Police said Davis is a registered sex offender with a 1991 conviction for lewd acts with a minor 14 or 15 years old.
