Human remains found Jan. 27 off Foresthill Road near Lake Clementine in Placer County have been identified as those of 23-year-old Trang Tran of Sacramento.

Trang, a Vietnamese national, was in the United States on a student visa, according to a Placer County Sheriff's Department news release. She was married to 28-year-old Michael Forest Abeyta, 28, of Citrus Heights, the man accused of killing her.

Hikers found the skeletal remains away from the roadway, in an area thick with underbrush. The condition of the remains suggested they had been there for a long time, Lt. Andrew Scott, sheriff's spokesman, said at the time. He said evidence found at the site linked Abeyta to the location where the remains were found an to the victim.

Abeyta was arrested Jan. 31 on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail in Placer County Jail.

The Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the investigation is continuing and no further information is being released at this time.
