A 41-year-old woman was fatally struck by a minivan Thursday night while walking with her boyfriend near the entrance to Discovery Park.

The couple was walking westbound in Garden Highway's southern bike lane near Natomas Park Drive just before 11 p.m., said Officer Linda Matthew, Sacramento Police Department spokeswoman. A silver minivan headed eastbound came into the bike lane, hitting the woman but not her boyfriend, before driving off.

A passerby tried to administer CPR to the woman, but she had died by the time police arrived. Witness descriptions of the minivan helped police track it down next to a business near West El Camino Avenue and Truxel Road, and the suspected driver was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run.

Police identified him as 28-year-old Raul Sanchez of Carmichael.

Sanchez was not believed to be intoxicated, Matthew said.

Sacramento County Coroner's Office has not identified the victim.
