Driver dies in car crash that prompted Travis AFB main gate closure

A motorist who crashed near the main entrance to Travis Air Force Base on Wednesday night was pronounced dead at the scene.

A car gained unauthorized access to the main gate and crashed shortly afterward, according to a base news release.

Travis security forces and Fairfield emergency personnel responded. The crash prompted closure of the base’s main gate for several hours, the news release said. No other injuries were reported.

The driver was not identified.

The incident remains under investigation, but there are no threats to the base or community, the news release said.
