The body of a former Rio Americano High School teacher was recovered last week after he was killed by a freight train in Sacramento.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the teacher as Alec Terence Hodgins, 55, of Sacramento. His body was found on the tracks in the 5900 block of Elvas Avenue at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A Sacramento police activity log notes that Hodgins placed his body on the tracks in the path of a northbound Union Pacific freight train.
Hodgins was a teacher at Rio Americano for more than 20 years and retired in March after being out on leave, Principal Brian Ginter said.
Ginter said Hodgins was noted for his passion for teaching French language and culture.
