One person is dead and another is in critical condition with a self-inflected gunshot wound following an early afternoon shooting in Olivehurst.
The incident began about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when one man opened fire on another man in a gas station parking lot in the 1900 block of McGowan Parkway, according to a Yuba County Sheriff's Office news release.
A preliminary investigation determined that one man was chasing the other man on foot while firing a handgun at close range. The victim was hit by gunfire but continued to run into a Dollar General store east of the gas station, the news release said. He was followed by the suspect.
The victim made his way to the back of the store and out a side door, where he collapsed. The suspect remained inside the store. where he shot himself, the news release said.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a Sacramento-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while the suspect was taken to a Marysville hospital and was in critical condition late Wednesday afternoon, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Nearby schools, including Lindhurst High School, were locked down as a precaution.
McGowan Parkway was closed from Highway 70 to George Avenue for the investigation. It reopened about 3:30 p.m.
The motive and events leading up to the shooting are under investigation, the news release said.
The names of the victim and shooter have not been released pending confirmation and notification of family.
