The body of an 11-year-old Hispanic boy who fell into a Meadow Vista canal was recovered Sunday night, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.
A resident off Crother Road called 911 around 6 p.m. Sunday after hearing someone's fruitless attempts to try to rescue the boy from the PG&E canal.
A dive team and helicopter scoured the surrounding area before the Placer County Sheriff's Office announced the body's discovery around 10:30 that night.
The boy's identity had not yet been released as of Monday morning. It was unclear whether his parents knew he was missing when first contacted by the sheriff's office Sunday.
