An 85-year-old Elk Grove woman died Monday afternoon when the vehicle in which she was riding was involved in a collision in south Sacramento County.
The two-vehicle collision was reported at 1:48 p.m. at Calvine and Vineyard roads. A 2008 Toyota driven by a 57-year-old Elk Grove woman was westbound on Calvine Road, approaching the intersection at Vineyard Road, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. A 2015 Honda, driven by a 35-year-old Sacramento woman, was eastbound on Calvine Road and was stopped at a red light waiting to turn northbound onto Vineyard Road.
When the light turned green, the Honda driver proceeded into the intersection to make a left turn. The Toyota failed to stop for the red light and entered the intersection directly into the path of the Honda, according to the CHP. The front end of the Toyota collided with the passenger side of the Honda, the news release said.
The 85-year-old woman, a passenger in the right rear of the Toyota, suffered fatal injuries, according to the CHP. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.

A male passenger in the front seat of the Toyota, whose age was not given, was transported to an area hospital with what were described as minor injuries, the CHP reported, while the driver was transported to a hospital with an injured wrist.
The driver of the Honda suffered moderate injuries and was also transported to an area hospital. Three children in the Honda — ages, 10, 7 and 2 years old — were not injured and were released to family members at the scene, the news release said.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been factors in the collision, according to the CHP.
