A possible homicide is being investigated after human remains were found in Mokelumne River, according to this video release from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department on Sunday, April 8.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of human remains Sunday morning in the Mokelumne River near the town of Isleton in south Sacramento County.

A fisherman found a bag containing what he believed to be human remains, then called sheriff's deputies, who arrived and confirmed his suspicion, said Sgt. Shaun Hampton, a Sheriff's Department spokesman. The call was made from the 100 block of Brannon Island Road at about 9:30 a.m., according to a department press release.

The department said it does not yet have any information on the age, race or sex of the victim in the case or many other details.

"There's a lot we don't know yet and stuff we can't release" because of the ongoing investigation, Hampton said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 916-874-5115. Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling 916-874-TIPS (8477).
