Arson investigators and hazardous materials teams were dispatched to the scene of a fire in a vacant house in Sacramento’s Robla area early Thursday.

The fire was reported about 5:45 a.m. on Bogle Court. Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire, preventing major damage to the house, which was vacant and for sale, said Capt. Keith Wade, Sacramento Fire Department spokesman.

City and county hazardous materials teams were summoned after investigators found an unknown substance in several locations throughout the house.

Wade said the substance was a liquid, but investigators have not disclosed what it might be. A cleanup crew was working at the site early Thursday afternoon, he said.

City code enforcement personnel were called to the scene to determine the extent of damage to the structure and whether it is habitable, Wade said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and it has not been determined whether it was deliberately set, he said.
