A motorcyclist was found dead in a rural area off Garden Highway early Sunday morning, after apparently running off the roadway during the night.
The California Highway Patrol received a report about 8:40 a.m. of a crash involving a single motorcycle on Garden Highway west of Power Line Road, after a fisherman came upon the crash site, according to a CHP news release.
The motorcyclist was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Garden Highway when he failed to negotiate a sweeping left turn in the roadway. He left the road, traveled up a dirt embankment and was ejected from the motorcycle. The rider and motorcycle traveled through the air for a significant distance before hitting the ground, the news release said.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified on the Sacramento County Coroner's Office website as 50-year-old David Ranftl. No city of residence was listed.
Alcohol and speed are suspected to have been factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
