A bicyclist killed in a drive-by shooting in Olivehurst last week has been identified by the Yuba County Sheriff's Office as 24-year-old Jose Zuniga-Juache.
Deputies found Zuniga-Juache, an Olivehurst resident, in the 1800 block of Sixth Avenue after receiving a 911 call about 6:44 p.m. reporting that a bicyclist had been shot and was lying in the street, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. He was transported to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle suspected of being involved in the shooting and its occupants. A short time later, a Marysville police officer spotted a car matching the description and attempted a traffic stop. The driver led police on a short pursuit before stopping on North Levee Road in Marysville, where the driver and three passengers were detained. They were subsequently arrested in connection with the shooting.
Christopher Garcia, 23, of Yuba City and Alex Ruiz, 18, of Marysville were booked into Yuba County Jail. They are being held on suspicion of murder and gang-related offenses. Bail for each is set at $1,095,000, according to inmate information available online.
