A 59-year-old woman was killed Thursday evening after she was run over following a minor traffic collision on the Capital City Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim has been identified as Xiao Li Chen, of Citrus Heights. Authorities said Chen was northbound on the Capital City Freeway near the E Street exit just before 7 p.m. when she was rear-ended by a 1994 BMW, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Following the collision, Chen and the driver of the BMW, a 28-year-old man, exited their vehicles and got into a verbal altercation.
Authorities said Chen then approached the driver’s side window of the BMW as the driver was moving the vehicle to the right-hand shoulder, but fell to the ground and was run over.
Chen was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the collision. No arrests have been made.
