Two escapees from Salinas Valley State Prison were apprehended Monday morning.

Two inmates who escaped from a minimum-security facility near Soledad were arrested in Sacramento early Monday morning.

Richard P. Almanza, 23, and Jonathan J. Damiano, 35, were found at a hotel in the city's Del Paso Heights area, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reported.

The two allegedly escaped from a unit of Salinas Valley State Prison on Sunday, when they were reported missing at 8:55 a.m. They were caught on Monday at 2:45 a.m.

"They were quickly taken into custody without incident, and are being transported back to SVSP," the department said in a news release.

Almanza, who came from Santa Barbara, is serving a nearly 5-year sentence for first-degree burglary and possession of a blackjack. He entered the prison system in July 2016.

Damiano went to prison in August 2017 from Sacramento and is serving a three-year sentence for second-degree burglary.

Both may face additional charges for their alleged prison break, the department said.
