Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in connection with a homicide late Friday near the river access and bike trail area outside of Bannister Park in Fair Oaks.
Elijah Ray Lambert, 21, of Sacramento was arrested on suspicion of homicide Saturday and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is being held without bail.
Lambert allegedly shot a man near the bike trail area about 9:46 p.m. Friday, authorities said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Miguel Martinez, 19, of Citrus Heights.
Detectives have called the case an “unintentional killing” and said the men knew each other, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.

Lambert was one of several people who was with the victim when the shooting occurred. The victim died at the scene.
Witnesses allegedly told deputies that the victim had been robbed by unknown people, an allegation that turned out to be false, according to the news release.
Sacramento Superior Court records show Lambert is facing trial this summer on charges of robbery and illegal possession of a firearm. The charges indicate he had a prior record as a juvenile and is prohibited from owning a gun until age 30.
His first court appearance for the homicide is scheduled Wednesday. No other suspects are being sought at this time.
