An El Dorado Hills man was arrested Monday after several construction workers were handcuffed and robbed by someone claiming to be an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.
Patrick Mullany, 56, was taken into custody on suspicion of armed robbery, false imprisonment and impersonating an officer after workers at a construction site were threatened with deportation, according to a news release issued by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office in California.
Deputies who responded to the scene of the armed robbery were told that a man who identified himself as an ICE agent handcuffed them and took money from them, ostensibly to pay for court fees, according to the release.
A victim at the scene said a similar incident happened a week prior, according to the release.
Mullany’s home and vehicle were searched with a warrant, where deputies found two replica guns, two pairs of handcuffs and a large amount of money, according to the release.
He is currently being held on a $102,000 bail at the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville.
