A 54-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday morning in Arden Arcade.
The pedestrian was struck about 7 a.m. on Marconi Avenue near Calderwood Lane. The car fled, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.
Traffic was detoured around the crash site for more than two hours.
The red sedan was traveling eastbound on Marconi Avenue east of Fulton Avenue. CHP spokesman Chad Hertzell said the man was crossing Marconi Avenue at a diagonal from the northeast corner of Calderwood Lane when he was hit.

The man, who was not in a crosswalk, died at the scene. The CHP believes he was going to get his morning coffee at a local fast-food restaurant.
Hertzell said a witness saw a car part, perhaps a bumper, fall off the car that hit the man. However, a Regional Transit bus then stopped before the scene of the crash, blocking the view of the witness.
The CHP suspects that the driver might have picked up the car part before speeding off. No description of the driver was available.
