Roseville police arrest suspect in chase that prompted school lockdowns

Roseville police have arrested a man suspected of leading officers in vehicle and foot pursuits that prompted the lockdown of two nearby schools Tuesday.

Zechariah Austin Lee (pictured), 29, was arrested early today at his Citrus Heights home on suspicion of evading police officers with disregard for public safety, theft and possession of a stolen vehicle, and on a Sacramento County warrant for violating terms of his post-release community supervision, according to a Police Department news release. He is being held without bail in Placer County Jail.

About 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, a Mercedes sedan was stolen from the 1200 block of Plumber Way. A few minutes later, Roseville officers saw the stolen car speeding down Vernon Street.

The driver led officers on a short pursuit. He abandoned the the vehicle on Darling Way at Vine Way, and ran off, police said. Officers from the Roseville Police Department and neighboring law enforcement agencies searched nearby residential neighborhoods and the creek-bed area but were unable to find the suspect. Two nearby schools were locked down during the search.
