A home in Rio Linda was heavily damaged in a fire just after midnight on Christmas morning. The home was unoccupied and no one was hurt.
The blaze in the 6800 block of 22nd Street was reported shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday. The first crews on the scene from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived to find the second floor of the home fully engulfed in flames.
The crews began attacking the fire and searching the structure for possible victims, but the heavy fire quickly weakened the roof. Sections of the roof began caving in while firefighters were working the fire on the second floor, fire officials reported in a news release. They evacuated quickly and began fighting the fire from the first floor.
At the time of the fire, the home was being remodeled and was unoccupied. Thirty-one firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, and they protected the first floor from fire damage.
