Two people died this evening in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 99 in the Galt area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported about 6:43 p.m. on northbound Highway 99 north of the Mingo Road offramp.
CHP spokesman Officer Michael Bradley said a 1990s model Saturn was northbound and was driven partly onto the median. The driver overcorrected, and the vehicle crossed the northbound lanes, going off the roadway and crashing into a tree. The impact with the tree split the vehicle in half, ejecting the occupants, a 52-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman. Their names have not been released pending notification of family.
Bradley said it has not been determined which one was driving. He said a dog in the vehicle also was killed.
