A teenager suffered head and leg injuries when he fell 250 feet down a steep hillside Tuesday afternoon in the Foresthill area.

Placer County sheriff’s officials said two teenagers reportedly were moving a picnic table at a seating area behind Worton’s Market in Foresthill, when one slipped and fell 250 feet into the canyon.

Placer County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. John Poretti said deputies responded about 1:30 p.m. to 23000 block of Foresthill Road. He said the youth, identified as 17-year-old Tyler Grandy, was conscious, talking and had a cell phone with him.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies, along with Foresthill firefighters and a California Highway Patrol air support crew, worked to rescue Grandy. A Foresthill firefighter was lowered down the hillside and was able to connect Grandy to a rescue harness so he could be lifted from the hillside. Because of Grandy’s location, the helicopter crew had to reconfigure the hoist system. Poretti said the helicopter lifted Grandy out of the canyon about 3:30 p.m.
