A 14-year-old boy struck by a moving train Friday night in Galt has died, according to authorities.
Galt Police Department officials said the teen was struck around 8:15 p.m. by a northbound Union Pacific train at the tracks near C and Fourth streets in Galt.
The Galt teen-ager was transported to a local hospital for treatment but subsequently died from severe injuries on Saturday, authorities said.
Union Pacific said a preliminary investigation indicates that the teen-ager was trying to race in front of the moving train when he was struck.

In an e-mailed response to questions, UP spokesman Aaron Hunt said the juvenile “tried to run across the tracks in front of the train. The nearest crossing would be C Street in Galt ... It appears the (teen) was trespassing on Union Pacific property with three others.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased. This is a stark reminder of the inherent dangers of railroad property.”
Union Pacific continues to investigate the incident.
