David Phoukanh Vangsavath and Ishmael Sergio Baez, both 19 and residents of Sacramento, were found shot to death in July 2004 in an alley between Capitol Avenue and N streets in midtown.

No arrests have been reported in the case.

According to stories in The Bee, police were alerted about 2:40 a.m. by several people who saw a person down in the alley. Officers arrived to find Vangsavath dead in a white 1994 Chrysler and Baez, still breathing, on the ground next to the car. Both had multiple gunshot wounds, and police said they appeared to have been shot at close range. Baez was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where he died.

Police said at the time that no one reported hearing shots fired, and no one was seen leaving the alley between 23rd and 24th streets.
