Fire officials investigate as ‘suspicious’ three east Sacramento house fires

The Sacramento Fire Department is investigating as suspicious three residential fires that broke out within less than two hours Thursday in east Sacramento.

“We have fires every day, but to have them in such close proximity in such a short time frame (raises suspicions),” said Assistant Chief Niko King.

The first fire was reported at 11:41 a.m. in the 400 block of 33rd Street. The second occurred at 12:22 p.m. in the 1200 block of 49th Street and the third was reported at 1:21 p.m. in the 3900 block of N Street.

King said no one was home at any of the residences when the fires started. Two cats died in one of the homes.

The homes had one thing in common: All were next to alleys. But King said he could not confirm reports that the fires started toward the rear of the residences.

He said arson investigators went from one fire scene to another Thursday evening.
