Missing Amador County man’s vehicle found stuck in Nevada creek bed

A car belonging to a missing Amador County man has been found stuck in a creek bed in Nevada.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has activated its search and rescue team in an effort to locate 79-year-old Warren Alford Hagyard of Pioneer, who has been missing since April 21.

The Amador County Sheriff’s Office was contacted today by an individual who had been four-wheeling in the area of Pyramid Lake near Nixon, Nev., on Saturday. The caller reported that while on a very rough dirt trail about 10 miles from the trail head, he located a blue Honda Civic in a creek bed and said the vehicle appeared to be stuck on rocks. No one was in the Honda. The windows were rolled down and the car keys were on the seat, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The caller took photos of the car and marked the GPS location of the vehicle. The caller reported that upon researching the vehicle this morning on the Internet, he learned that it was associated with Hagyard.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and used its helicopter to locate the vehicle, which a sheriff’s detective confirmed was Hagyard’s Honda. Authorities said a preliminary examination revealed nothing suspicious.

Hagyard’s wife reported her husband missing April 21, saying that family members last saw him leaving his son’s residence in Elk Grove about 3 p.m. that day. After a preliminary investigation, Amador County sheriff’s officials contacted the California Highway Patrol and requested activation of a “Silver Alert” due to Hagyard’s medical conditions.

During a follow-up investigation, detectives found that Hagyard’s credit card was used about 11 p.m. April 21 at a gas station in Colfax. Placer County sheriff’s detectives reviewed the surveillance video from the gas station, which showed a man matching the description of Hagyard fueling a blue Honda. They reported that the man did not appear to be in distress. They said the clerk who assisted the man said he appeared somewhat confused but did not ask for any assistance.
