Emergency equipment and first-responders will be hurrying about Wednesday at Sacramento International Airport - but it is only be a drill.

The airport will conduct a simulated aviation incident to test preparedness from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Federal regulations require a full-scale emergency exercise every three years.

The drill will not have any impact on passengers or flight schedules.

Participants include the department of airports personnel, Alaska Airlines, airport rescue and fire fighting, the sheriff’s department, air traffic control, American Red Cross, the Coast Guard and the California Highway Patrol.

A Coast Guard C-130 airplane will arrive on one of the airport’s runways at 9:30 a.m. The aircraft will be used to stage the exercise, simulating an airliner damaged upon landing, according to an airport press release.
