A fight left two men unconscious and in critical condition early Sunday, Redding police said.
John Raymond Fritz, 29, and Claude Alexander Schmies, 48, both of Redding, were taken to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance with head injuries. Police said the men were struck with a metal object during a fight with Richard James Hiers, 22, and Nathan Robert Byers, 19, also of Redding.
Police said the four began fighting at Elmwood and Veda Streets, after Fritz and Schmies drove past Hiers and Byers as they were walking down the street.
Byers and Hiers called 911 just before 1:30 a.m. They were interviewed by investigators and released.
