A Sacramento County jury convicted Jeffery Breon Gray of second-degree murder in the July 24, 2002 shooting death of his girlfriend Agnes Elias.

Gray was sentenced in July 2004 to 25 years to life in state prison. Now 40 years old, he is incarcerated at California State Prison, Corcoran.

According to stories in The Sacramento Bee, Elias, 30, was found dead of a gunshot wound in Memorial Lawn Cemetery on Stockton Boulevard after officers responded about 5:30 p.m. to a report of gunshots at the east end of the cemetery. Police identified the suspect as Gray, who was the last person seen with Elias and was later observed running from the scene. He was apprehended at his apartment on Center Parkway.

The prosecutor called the murder a “classic case of domestic violence.”
