Crime - Sacto 911

Ask Sacto 911 crime Q&A: What happened to wrong-way driver in Highway 50 crash that killed Orangevale man?

I would like to know what happened to a woman who was allegedly intoxicated and driving the wrong way on Highway 50 about three years ago. She collided head on with a car being driven by Bruce Bone, who was killed instantly. Was this woman ever charged with a crime? If so, what was the disposition of her case?

Theresa Ghersanich of Placerville pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter while driving intoxicated in the crash that killed Bruce Michael Bone of Orangevale.

She was sentenced in March 2012 in El Dorado Superior Court to 10 years in state prison. Now 59 years old, she is incarcerated at Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla.

Bone, 41, died April 7, 2010, in the head-on collision on Highway 50 west of Red Hawk Parkway in Shingle Springs.

Ghersanich also suffered major injuries in the crash, which occurred as she drove her sport-utility vehicle eastbound in the westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
